Schools and nature education: learning with and from nature

As a qualified educator (Cert. Ed.), and former higher education Programme Lead and Lecturer, I understand how important engaging delivery and classroom activities are in making lessons come alive and be truly transformational.

I firmly believe that students learn best about the natural world, by direct experience with it, whether that be hands-on out on the field, or with plant matter in the classroom. Employing the senses and tapping into innate curiosity brings a vast depth to learning about nature, that cannot solely be gained from books and transmission-style teaching.

Combining a great deal of experience in planning engaging, appropriate content, to match specific curriculum or module requirements, with a dynamic and inclusive delivery style, my aim is to inspire students see nature differently and take an active part in preserving the natural world that we’re a part of.

Full insured, and enhanced DBS registered, since 2016, I have provided bespoke content for the ‘Scented Garden’ curriculum for Year 2 students across a number of local primary schools, working with class sizes of up to 30, with a range of learning needs.
